What exactly am I buying?
A certificate sealed with the aquila, drawn in the old Roman manner, enrolling your chosen name in Legio X Equestris as Legionarius or Centurio. It names your dedicated souvenir plot in the Roman Campagna. The certificate is emailed as a PDF within minutes of purchase and can be printed and framed at home, or we can arrange printing and framing for you.
What is the souvenir plot?
A dedicated parcel of the Ager Romanus assigned to your certificate. It is a souvenir dedication, a keepsake connection to the country outside the walls, not a legal land deed or transfer of property. Your certificate names the plot and gives its coordinates.
Do I become a real Roman legionary?
No, and there is nobody left who could make you one. The legions were disbanded fifteen centuries ago. Legionarius and Centurio here are honorifics, the same words Rome used, set before a name. They are commemorative and personal, they are not military service or any rank in any modern force, and they carry no legal rights or official recognition. We are clear about this on every certificate.
Where does the word legionary actually come from?
From the Latin
legere, to gather or pick out, so a
legio was simply the levy: the men chosen that year. Rome's most feared institution started life as a piece of administrative vocabulary, and the same root gives English

How is the certificate delivered?
By email, as a PDF, within minutes of purchase. You can print it at home, forward it to a recipient as a gift, or choose our print-and-frame option at checkout.
Can I give this as a gift?
Absolutely, it is primarily a gift. At checkout, enter the recipient's email address and the certificate will go directly to them. You can also add a personal message which we'll include with the certificate.
Can I get a physical printed certificate?
Yes. At checkout you can choose to have your certificate professionally printed (US only, +$30) or printed and framed (+$59). For international orders, the PDF is designed to print beautifully at home on standard A4 or letter paper.
How long does it take?
The PDF certificate is emailed within minutes of purchase, automatically. Printed and framed certificates take additional time for production and shipping, details shown at checkout.
Can I use the title officially, on documents, my passport, etc.?
No. It is for personal and social use only. It has no official legal standing and cannot be used on legal documents.
What is your refund policy?
Your enrollment, your certificate, and your plot are refunded 100%, for any reason, for 30 days. Write to us at
hello@romanlegionary.com and it is done, no explanation needed and nothing to send back. A printed or framed piece is refunded in full too if you tell us before we post it; once it is posted it carries your name and cannot be resold, so the printing and framing are final.
